Medco E & P Natuna ltd. (MEPN) operates in offshore blocks (oil & gas) in the Natuna Sea with a total of 178 wells. Well Integrity becomes very important to ensure all wells are operated in design envelop during the well life cycles. This paper will discuss the application of a well integrity management system (WIMS) to reduce lost production opportunities.
Well Integrity is the application of technical, operational and organizational solutions to reduce the risk of uncontrolled release and/or unintentional subsurface/formation fluid movement throughout the life cycle of a well (NORSOK D-010 rev.4). In addition, two barriers envelop will also be assessed. These can help to highlight identifying problems of the well and opportunities to increase value or reduce the risk of Health Safety Environmental (HSE).
Data collection such as taken from routine maintenance (six months period of regular ITM- Inspection, Testing and Maintenance), daily monitoring (annulus and tubing pressure) and finding during well intervention activities (slick line, wireline, hydraulic work over and coiled tubing work) will be feed into WIMS. The WIMS will be useful to determine risk ratings and to identify the potential of integrity issues happened at the particular wells. Combining the WIMS risk rating data and well production rate data, this can be the powerful data to rectify the problem. This WIMS application is more to preventive actions instead of corrective actions unless no double barrier which need to fix the problem immediately prior to putting back on production. The WIMS Data will be utilized to develop an activity schedule (for repair or replacement, etc.)
WIMS has been implemented since 2010 and has been a reliable system for effectively monitoring the issues of well integrity and has been shown to reduce lost/defer production opportunities.
