Abstract

This paper describes the improvement in methodology to estimates the reserves, production forecast and define the optimum production strategy in complex multilayered reservoir. Bekapai is a mature oil and gas field located in the offshore Mahakam Delta, Indonesia. The hydrocarbons are accumulated in a complex multilayered reservoir, where oil, gas and different reservoir pressure presence alternately. Integrated production modeling using IPM suite (Petex) offers an effective and robust technique to forecast the performance of wells which produced from multiphase and different pressure regime. This model is a numerical simulation to describe the reservoir behavior, production system and find the optimum production strategy of any operated field by integrating the reservoir models, well models and the surface network model.

Integrated production modeling is able to manage properly the reservoirs complexity, different production scenarios and surface facility limitation. This model is already applied to estimate the initial gain and additional reserves of well intervention, to define the optimum commingle configuration and reserves estimation of new wells. It gives a complete integration and full interaction of different key components that will affect the effectiveness of field development scenario, including reservoir, wellbore and surface
facilities. Going through the process of integrated production modeling to optimize completion strategy and production performance, Bekapai 2019 wells (BKP-X1 and BKP-X2) are successfully deliver an additional of 3550 BOPD and 12 MMscfd to the field production. Sensitivities of various artificial lift methods and its additional reserves also performed with this model to justify the necessity of artificial lift in Bekapai.

Integrated production modeling enables us to perform sensitivity and gives a holistic understanding of various development scenarios. In short, it provides the economic optimization of oil and gas recovery.
