Abstract

The key difference between oil-field and gas-field production-exploitation strategy lays mainly on how the hydrocarbon is put into market. Oil-field hydrocarbon production is dominated by the fluid-phase with not much hydrocarbon-volatility unlike gas-dominated-hydrocarbon in the gas-field. Hydrocarbon in gas form is very volatile and prone to diffusing into atmosphere thus to reduce storage cost and to avoid hydrocarbon losses the production of hydrocarbon-gas need to synergize with the gas consumer and regulated by gas-sales-agreement.
In wet-gas and retrograde-gas reservoir, gas production always accompanied by condensate production. If the gas production is high enough, the accompanied condensate will have economic value for the overall project economies, and unlike gas, the sales of condensate is not regulated by the gas-sales-agreement. However, to produce high volume of condensate, the production of gas need to be set high and will definitely exceed the gas-sales-agreement. To solve this problem, a procedure of gas recycling is often used where the excess dry-gas is then reinjected into reservoir.
Simulation study on cycling scenario is proposed to assess gas recycling economic potential on Jambi Merang Area with two main field, Sungai Kenawang and Pulau Gading. This scenario is where all of the gas-sales are provided from Sungai Kenawang field, whereas on Pulau Gading, produced gas is recycled and only the extracted condensate is produced. Economic evaluation from this scenario is calculated using newly proposed gross split contract for Indonesian upstream business activities after that the result will be compared to similar gas field in the industry.
