Well CR-104 is one of development well which located in MB Field at Kutai Basin, East Kalimantan. The well was planned with well trajectory design as directional well with S-type of well trajectory. Its design is to reach the target easily as the primary objective was Late Miocene Balikpapan Formation and early Middle Miocene Pulau Balang Reservorir.
From offset well report, the target of Total Depth drilling well at Shale below primary target of sand formation. This well will be completed as dual 3-1/2" monobore completion with expected net pay 206 ft. The well itself has been design with base parameter of its well such as BUR = 2 deg/100 ft; DDR = 1 deg/100 ft; max inclination = 15 deg; KOP = 2,036 ft ; EOD = 4,967 ft; azimuth = 80.77 deg and TD = 13,500 ftMD. With Minimum of Curvature method the well trajectory was made as it is.
Author do analysis and evaluation for its well trajectory and re-design with 5 (five) type of parameter (BUR, DDR, KOP and EOD) by using calculation Reverse Minimum of Curvature (RMOC) method from TVD (True vertical depth) data to MD (Measured Depth) data using Excel with different parameter designs, to obtain same results as the program planning that's has been made by company. The results of calculation using RMOC method made the well trajectory with those various parameter almost similar with base parameter above. With some adjustment were made on those designs, it made client more easily and having more option if the drilling operation facing some problem if using the base parameter cannot be used particularly. Some recommendation of its design were made to give the well trajectory as same as the base parameter design.
Novelty, using calculation Reverse Minimum of Curvature method can be used for well trajectory design if the known data were TVD, BUR, DDR, KOP, EOD, max inclination, azimuth and TD. The modification of its method just give how to get Measured Depth (MD) in calculation or program when well trajectory is made.
