Abstract

Drilling mud is a factor very important in the oil and gas drilling process. Whether or not a drilling process is successful depends on the appropriate drilling mud. Therefore, drilling mud must have properties and capabilities that are in accordance with the desired characteristics. The basic ingredients in making standard sludge are bentonite (minerals montmorillonite) originating from Wiyoming United States. To reduce the amount of expenditure that is too large, it is necessary to innovate from the drilling mud. Therefore we as an area that hasreserve potential clay a very largeneeds an assessment of the clay localto find out thetypes clay localand what minerals are contained in the clay local, so that the clay localcan be used as a basic material for drilling mud, or not.

To find out from the mud Rheology based on clay local, it is necessary to do testing in the Petroleum Engineering laboratory, Riau Islamic University. From these laboratory tests obtained rheological properties such as density, viscosity, resistivity, yield point, plastic viscosity, gel strenght. Whereas to determine the composition and structure ofmineral clay local, analysis of SEM and EDX was carried out. From these tests add additives NaCO, and NaOH as ion exchangers and add the element Na to the sludge.

The density was 8.7 ppg, viscosity was 15 cp, resistivity was 10.5 2. yield point was I lb/ft, gel strength was 1. while themineral composition clayis C 20.73%, AO, 25.41%, SiO 46.78%, K2O 1.67%, TiO2 0.85%, Fe 2 3.15%, and CuO 1.41%. From the research on rheological analysis of drilling mud and chemical composition analysis of the minerals Clay Illite Platty in Riau, Central Sumatra, and with the addition of additives NaCO, and NaOH to Clay local, Rheology in mud-based Clay Illite Platty is the same as Bentonite commonly used as basic materials for the manufacture of oil and gas drilling mud with API Spec13 A.
